Description:

This composition, like the following ones in the tier of Sundays of Pentacost, is not directly related to the Resurrection of the Christ but tells the story of one of the miracles of Jesus, namely, the healing of a paralytic. The miracle occurred at a pool with miraculous properties. An angel would stir the water, and the first person to enter afterward would be healed. However, since the paralyzed man could not move by himself, his chances of recovery were minimal until he met Jesus.

In the icon, a bath is depicted as an enclosed arcade pool, surrounded by those in need of healing. Above the water, there is an angel who is about to stir it. In the foreground on the right, Christ is presented with his disciples, and on the left, the healed paralytic is shown standing on his feet, carrying his bedroll, just as Jesus told him at the moment of his healing: “Rise, take up your bed and walk!”
