We cordially invite you to visit the exhibition “Buddhist Collection” exhibition in memory of Ivan Hrechko.

The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of the famous Lviv collector Ivan Hrechko, who passed away on June 15, 2022. The exhibits on display comprise valuable artifacts from the sacred culture and history of the Buryats. The majority of these exhibits were preserved by Ivan Hrechko during his expedition to Buryatia in 1962. He generously donated his entire Buddhist collection to our museum.

The collection includes “Thangkas” and “Tsaklis” (prints featuring religious scenes and symbols), a 19th century Sanskrit book titled “Tripitaka”, an 18th-century cedar matrix used for printing prayer books, a Buddhist bronze bell, and other rare items that vividly illustrate the rich culture of the Buryats—a culture that faced challenges from the colonial policies of both tsarist and Soviet Russia.

The exhibition officially opened its doors on July 20, 2022.
